Asheboro,NC : Head-on collision kills Pinehurst man on October, Tuesday 3rd 2017
A Pinehurst man was killed in a Tuesday morning head-on collision.
According to N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. J.E. Stahl, Michael Sean Murphy, 51, of Pinehurst, was traveling north on U.S. 15-501 just south of the Carthage city limits at approximately 11:07 a.m. Murphy’s 2006 Toyota went left of center and struck a 2014 Chevrolet of the state motor fleet. The Chevrolet was from the Morrison Correctional Center of the Department of Corrections. Inside were two guards and one inmate, whose names were not available at press time.
Stahl said Murphy died at the scene and the investigation is awaiting results of blood tests to determine if he had medical issues. One guard and the inmate were transported to Moore Regional Hospital and the other guard was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. There were no reports on the conditions of the victims in the Chevrolet.
Stahl said there would be no charges filed.
