Mobile,AL : I-65 SB reopens after overturned tanker blocks I-65 near Airport Boulevard for hours; truck driver dead on August, Tuesday 29th 2017
Both lanes of I-65 southbound have been reopened after a deadly tanker truck crash. One southbound lane was reopened shortly after 8:00 as crews continued to clear the mangled tanker. Crews moved the cab of the truck around 9:00, and the tanker about an hour after that. Heavy rain made the process difficult for workers who had been cleaning up the wreck for more than eight hours.
The driver of a tanker truck is dead after a violent crash that shut down all lanes of Interstate 65 just north of the the Airport Boulevard overpass at midday Tuesday, according to fire and police officials.
Airport Boulevard was closed for a time but has since been reopened, after it was confirmed that the previous belief that the tanker was hauling hazardous materials was false. Earlier, Mobile Fire-Rescue had cleared everyone out of a 1,000 radius around the tanker, when because of incorrect paperwork onboard officials feared the tanker may have been carrying hazardous material.
