Clarks Grove, MN : Austin woman killed in a crash on Interstate 35 in Freeborn County early Thursday, March 9, 2017

An Austin woman died early this morning after she apparently lost control of the vehicle she was driving and was ejected when it rolled over.

Illeana Babastro, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was reported at 3:46 a.m.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Babastro was driving south on Interstate 35 in Freeborn County when the vehicle left the roadway, went into the median and rolled. The small SUV ended up in the northbound exit ramp/lane to Minnesota Highway 251.

Two passengers in the vehicle, Sashy Martinez, 31, of Rochester, N.Y., and Reinaldo Quesada, 41, of Albert Lea, were taken to an Albert Lea hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, the patrol report says.

Alcohol was not involved; the road condition was described as snowy/icy.

Neither Babastro nor Martinez were wearing their seat belts, the report says, and the air bags did not deploy.

Members of the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office, Ellendale ambulance and Gold Cross Ambulance assisted at the scene.
