Ontario, CA : Ontario woman dead, man detained in 60 Freeway crash on Tuesday, 26th December 2017

A man has been detained in connection with a crash late Christmas night in Jurupa Valley in which an Ontario woman died, according to the California Highway Patrol.

About 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26 — 12 hours after the crash on the westbound 60 Freeway that killed Hillary Hicks, 23 — a man showed up at the Chino Police Department to report his vehicle stolen, according to the CHP log. The CHP eventually took him into custody as “a person of interest,” Officer Dan Olivas said.

The crash was first reported just after 11:30 p.m. as a vehicle that lost control and went down an embankment, according to CHP incident reports. Hicks was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where she died, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

The CHP incident log said her car had rear-end damage and that another vehicle, a minivan, had front-end damage. But that driver could not be found, the log said.
