The state trooper, 35-year-old Sgt. Mike Krukowski of Oakdale, was initially pinned inside his Chevrolet Tahoe squad vehicle, but he was freed by first responders and taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center with a broken arm and broken bones in his feet.

In a video posted to Twitter on May 16, Krukowski said he has "a bit of a journey" ahead of him, "but I'm on the way to recovery." Krukowski was released from the hospital earlier this week and is recovering at home.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, including whether drugs or alcohol were a factor, the State Patrol said.
