Man dies, kids escape fiery crash into building in Longmont Colorado

A pickup crashed into a warehouse in Longmont causing a large fire Wednesday afternoon.Police say the driver of the vehicle was a 34-year-old man from Longmont. His two children, a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, were also in the car.The children were able to get out of the car after the accident but could not pull their father to safety. Police believe he died in the fire.The teens told police the man may have had a seizure. Police say the vehicle stopped at an intersection and then accelerated into the warehouse.Police say the crash occurred at 4 p.m. and the fire was contained by 6 p.m.

The 32,000-square-foot metal building that was hit is located at 110 South Bowen Circle. It has been unoccupied since the September floods. It was previously occupied by AA Plumbing.

Police say that inside the building are wood shelves and acetylene. That chemical is used in welding and is highly flammable.Longmont Fire investigators, Longmont police detectives and hazmat crews were on scene. Air quality was also being monitored because of the fire.The body will be recovered Thursday because it was unsafe to enter, police said.
