PARKER, CO : Three people were injured after a five-vehicle crash on Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Three people were injured after a five-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver on Tuesday morning, South Metro Fire Rescue said.

The crash happened about 11 a.m. on northbound Parker Road just south of E-470.

The Parker Police Department said a black sedan was speeding and going the wrong way when it crashed into four other vehicles, one of them head-on.

At least one person was extricated from a vehicle that rolled over, officials said. At least one vehicle caught fire as crews arrived on the scene. The names, ages and conditions of those who were injured were not known.

"I saw a black car flying through the air and in that moment, I was almost positive that I was going to die," said Ivory Moodyy, who was involved in the crash.

"So I slammed on my brakes and the truck in front of me rolled on its side. I hit the undercarriage of the truck and saw the black car on fire."

Both directions of Parker Road were closed at E-470 so the crash scene could be cleared and for the investigation. Southbound Parker Road reopened about 11:45 a.m. Northbound Parker Road reopened about 1 p.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. IT's not known if drugs or alcohol were involved.

The Parker Police Department said there have been 30 crashes in the area in the past year.

"I don’t think this is something that can easily happen," police spokesman Chris Peters said. "The roadway is divided by a median so there’s only certain instances where you can get on the wrong side of the road.

"This is not something we see on a regular basis. It is a busy roadway and we do have accidents. But nothing this severe on a regular basis."

Of the 30 crashes in the past year, 23 were related to careless driving. Others were following too closely, unsafe lane changes, driving under the influence and failure to yield.
