Dekalb County, AL : Fort Payne corrections officer died in a crash early Sunday morning, April 3, 2016
A corrections officer with the Fort Payne Police Department was killed in an early morning crash Sunday.
Cody LeDale Wells, 23, was killed when the 2014 Ford Focus he was driving left the roadway, overturned and hit a tree at 3:30 a.m.
Wells was traveling south on Highway 85 one mile north of Fort Payne city limits.
He was not using a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wells had been employed with the police department since November 2015.
In a press release, Chief Randy Bynum said that Wells will be missed by the department and their sympathies go out to his family and friends.
A viewing will be held for Wells on Wednesday from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Fort Payne. The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. with burial at Glenwood Cemetery.
