Waterbury, CT : Driver, 18, critically hurt from being ejected in Winsted rollover crash on Saturday, August 13, 2016
An 18-year-old from Torrington is in critical condition at Waterbury Hospital after a crash shortly after midnight Saturday on Colebrook River Road, police said.
The victim, who has not been identified by police, was lying face down approximately 20 feet south of the overturned car. The victim was not conscious but was breathing and had a pulse, according to a news release from Winsted police.
The victim was the only individual in the black Volkswagen Golf.
Police provided first aid until Winsted Ambulance arrived on scene.
Police said the driver lost control and struck a large boulder on the southbound side of the road, according to a preliminary investigation by police. State police assisted in the investigation.
The vehicle was impounded to be inspected for any possible mechanical issues.
