Wiggins, MS : Driver killed, passenger injured in Stone Co. crash on Thursday, February 23, 2017

Both lanes of Hwy. 49 northbound near the MGCCC Perkinston Campus are now open to traffic after crews cleared the scene of a fatal accident near Silver Run Rd.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Chase Elkins said a driver was killed after rear-ending a construction truck bearing a flashing arrow directing traffic. The truck was in place to direct drivers to change lanes because of an ongoing road paving project on that part of the highway.

Elkins said the passenger in the vehicle was air lifted to a hospital, but their condition is unknown.

In a tweet, MHP Troop K in Biloxi advised drivers to buckle up, slow down, and pay attention in construction zones.
