Athens,TX : Woman dies in wreck on may, Tuesday 30th 2017

A 21-year-old Murchison woman died in a one-vehicle crash on Farm-to-Market Road 279 near Tyler on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Austynne Brooke Roberts.

Texas Department of Public Safety reports said troopers responded at about 2 p.m. to a wreck in Smith County, six miles west of the city of Tyler. According to information from the the preliminary crash investigation, Roberts was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, traveling west on FM 279 when the wreck occurred. The vehicle went off the roadway to the right, causing the driver to overcorrect to the left.

DPS Sgt. Jean Dark said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the roadway, and struck a tree. Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene by Smith County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 James Meredith. Her body was taken to Lighthouse Professional Services funeral home in Tyler.

The wreck is still under investigation by DPS.
