GREEN, OH : Driver ejected when pursuit ends in crash on Thursday, 15th September 2016
A driver was ejected when a high-speed pursuit early Thursday ended in a crash on Massillon Road in Green.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a trooper attempted a traffic stop on a Camaro that was weaving while traveling northbound on I-77 near the Akron-Canton Airport around 1:45 a.m. Thursday.
Troopers said they turned on their lights to pull the driver over but he took off at a high rate of speed. That's when they started the pursuit.
When the driver exited the northbound lanes of I-77 to Massillon Road he lost control and hit a steel pole and traffic control box, tearing the car open and ejecting the driver.
The car came to rest on the west side of Massillon Road, with the driver lying in the middle of the road and debris scattered across the road.
Troopers said the man was transported to an Akron hospital but his injuries and condition were unknown.
The crash destroyed a traffic control box at the intersection.
On Sept. 4, the traffic control box that controls the I-77 southbound exit and entrance ramps at Massillon Road was destroyed in a crash. The exit ramp from I-77 south was closed for two days to repair it.
