Phoenix, AZ : Two crashes, one fatal, close Glendale streets on Saturday, 24th September 2016

Glendale Police reported one man died after veering off the road and colliding with a power pole Saturday night.

A little after 5 p.m., Glendale police responded to a traffic collision near 67th and Grand avenues. After investigating, officers concluded two cars were driving northwest side-by-side on Grand Avenue when they had a side-swipe collision. Police said this caused one car to veer off Grand Avenue and collide with a power pole.

The car had three people in it and all of them were transported to local hospitals, police said. The front-seat passenger later died, according to police. The driver had life-threatening injuries, was later upgraded to stable condition. The rear passenger had minor injuries.

Detectives from the Glendale Police Vehicle Crimes Unit are currently investigating and have not yet determined if impairment was a factor, police said.

Northwest Grand Avenue will be shut down near Orangewood Avenue. Southeast Grand Avenue will be shut down near 71st Avenue.

Glendale police responded to another vehicle collision at about 4:40 p.m. near 59th Avenue and Acoma Drive. A vehicle traveling southbound attempted to turn left at the intersection and was hit by a vehicle heading northbound, police said.

According to police, the crash caused the turning car to flip. The two adult passengers were transported to local hospitals and police said one sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Northbound 59th Avenue was closed near Thunderbird Road while the accident scene was cleaned up.
