BERKELEY COUNTY, SC : Berkeley Co. deputies, driver injured in fiery crash on Sunday, 20th May 2018

A crash Sunday afternoon injured the two Berkeley County deputies and the driver of a second vehicle.

The crash happened at approximately 7:39 p.m. Sunday on College Park Road near the intersection of Miami Street, according to Berkeley County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mike Cochran.

As deputies approached the intersection in their Ford Interceptor, a Cadillac sedan turned into the path of the deputy's vehicle, he said.

The driver of the deputy vehicle was able to get out the vehicle with the help of a bystander, but the passenger, a fellow Berkeley County deputy was injured and unable to get out of the vehicle on his own, Cochran said. An off-duty reserve deputy helped the injured deputy out of the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames, Cochran said.

EMS took both deputies and the driver of the other vehicle to Trident Hospital in North Charleston for treatment.

The deputies remained in the hospital Monday afternoon but are expected to recover, Cochran said.

The extent of the other driver’s injuries is unknown.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
