Stillwater, OK : Layne Michael Meriwether, 23, died in a one car accident near Hackelman Road early Sunday, February 5, 2017

A Stillwater man died early Sunday in a one car accident near Hackelman Road about four miles west of Stillwater on state Highway 51.

Layne Michael Meriwether, 23, was found in his vehicle, a 2006 Ford F250 pick-up truck, at 7:30 a.m. Sunday according to a release from Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop K. He was pronounced dead at the scene with head, leg and trunk internal injuries.

Responding agencies don't know what time the wreck occurred.

According to OHP, Meriwether was eastbound on state Highway 51 when his truck left the roadway to the right, rolled about one-quarter turn and struck a tree.

According to OHP, the vehicle was equipped with seatbelts but he was not wearing one at the time of the accident.

Meriwether was pinned in the vehicle and extricated by the Stillwater Fire Department.

The report notes road conditions were dry and fog was present.

OHP, the Stillwater Fire Department, the Payne County Sheriff's Office and LifeNet Ambulance responded to the scene.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
