A Baylor University student died late Thursday night when a speeding car struck his bicycle in a hit-and-run collision on Franklin Avenue, Waco police said.
David Grotberg, 19, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, was hit shortly before 10 p.m. when he and his girlfriend were riding bikes east in the 3100 block of Franklin Avenue. A large crowd of students and faculty walked into Alexander Hall for a prayer gathering late Friday afternoon. Students hugged outside the honors residence hall, sharing memories and stories of the Baylor Golden Wave Marching Band trumpet player and president of the Ballroom Dance Society.
Grotberg, a sophomore, was involved in Alliance Bible Church and was an active member in the Honors Residential College community, according to a statement Baylor released Friday afternoon. He also participated in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core, Honors Program and the University Scholars Program with a “very active and visible presence” on the Baylor campus.
