A man has died after crashing into a street sweeper in Norfolk Wednesday night, police said.

It happened about 10:45 p.m. on Tidewater Drive, according to a police department news release.Police said they think Shamar R. Copeland, 38, of Portsmouth, rear-ended the sweeper near the intersection of Philpotts Road. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, but he died shortly after, officials said.

The driver of the sweeper was not injured. The crash is under investigation.
