Two-vehicle accident slowed traffic at the intersection of Mechanic and Water streets

A two-vehicle accident slowed traffic at the intersection of Mechanic and Water streets Monday about 8:25 p.m., police said.

A motorist driving toward Monument Square downtown stopped at the intersection to let Daniel Chace, 40, of Westminster, pull out of Water Street to take a left, Sgt. Mark Amico said.

Ashley Blanchard, 22, of Fitchburg, drove around the stopped vehicle and was struck on the passenger side of the 2003 Ford she was driving. Blanchard was ticketed for failing to stay in the right lane, Amico said.
