East Liverpool, OH : Two drivers seriously injured in pickup truck and car crash on Thursday January 21 2016
State police in Kiski have identified two drivers who were seriously injured Thursday along Route 22 in Salem in a collision between a pickup truck and a car near Route 119.
Police said Thomas L. Griffith, 65, of Bolivar was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado west on Route 22 when he failed to stop at a traffic signal and struck a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Andrew Black, 41, of East Liverpool, Ohio.
Police said Black, who had a green light, was attempting to enter Route 22 from Operator Way when his car was struck on the driver's side by Griffith's pickup truck.
Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles and were airlifted with serious injuries to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Condition reports were not available Friday for either driver.
Police have filed no citations in connection with the crash, which remains under investigation.
Police are investigating whether Griffith's pickup truck may have been involved in a hit-and-run crash moments earlier on the same highway near Route 981 in New Alexandria.
