Huntsville, UT : 14-year-old killed, 3 others injured in crash after car hits black ice in Weber County on Wednesday evening, December 30, 2015
A 14-year-old Hunstville boy was killed in a crash Wednesday evening on Trappers Loop Road after the car he was in lost control and was struck by another vehicle.
The boy's father was driving a Lincoln Town Car south around 6 p.m. when the car went over black ice, struck a guard rail and came into the path of a northbound Jeep, according to the Weber County Sheriff's Office.
A medical helicopter was also called to the site of the crash, but was called off when emergency workers learned the boy had died at the scene.
The boy's father was treated for injuries at a hospital and was later released. Both he and his son were wearing seat belts, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay. The Jeep struck the Lincoln "on the opposite side of where the teen was," Findlay said.
The boy's name wasn't released Wednesday.
The driver of the Jeep tried to avoid the Lincoln, but couldn't do so in time, Findlay said. Two adults in the Jeep were hospitalized with minor wounds — one with a concussion and the other with an arm injury. It wasn't immediately known whether they were wearing seat belts.
The Utah Highway Patrol and the sheriff's offices from Weber and Morgan counties all responded to the crash. Investigators attempted to reconstruct the crash Wednesday evening.
Trappers Loop Road was temporarily closed in both directions between approximately Snowbasin Resort and state Route 39 in Huntsville, the lieutenant said.
