Covington , LA : 14-year-old killed during high speed crash in St. Tammany Parish on Saturday May 9th 2015
Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a 14-year-old boy in St. Tammany Parish.
Police say just after midnight a State Trooper pulled over a Chevy Cobalt driving over 100 miles per hour on US Highway 190 in Covington. When the officer approached the vehicle he found a 14-year-old male in the driver's seat.
While interviewing the driver, 21-year-old Brandon Bigner jumped into the driver's seat and sped off in the vehicle with another 14-year-old passenger in the car. The trooper did not immediately pursue the driver. He secured the original driver and then drove off in search of the vehicle.
While in search of the car, the trooper discovered the vehicle had been involved in a high-speed crash with an 18-wheeler truck two miles from the initial traffic stop.
Officers believe that while Bigner was fleeing the traffic stop he crossed over into the eastbound lane of US 190. Bigner then over corrected and ended up in the path of the 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler then collided with the left side of the vehicle.
Bigner who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of accident was ejected from the vehicle and sustained severe injuries.
