Montville, OH : 22-year-old Painesville man dies in Geauga County crash on early Tuesday morning July 22nd 2014

An early morning crash has claimed the life of a 22-year-old Painesville man.

The Chardon post of the Highway Patrol says James Giffin Jr. was driving a 2007 Chevy Impala eastbound on state Route 86 when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree around 1:20 a.m. near Route 528.

Giffin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Geauga County Coroner.

Authorities say it's unknown if alcohol played a role in the crash. Giffin was wearing a seat belt.

The Geauga County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, Montville and Middlefield fire departments responded to the scene.
