Union Township, NJ : Five people from New Hampshire injured in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County on Monday, April 18, 2016

Five people from New Hampshire were injured, three critically, in a one-vehicle accident Monday on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County.

Four people, including a 4-year-old child, were medevacked to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, State Police Spokesman Sgt. Jeff Flynn said Tuesday. A 2-year-old child was taken by ambulance to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, he said.

Flynn said Justin Proulx, 25, of Manchester, New Hampshire, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 78 at mile marker 15.7 at 6 p.m. in a 2001 Subaru Forester when he appeared to have lost control of the vehicle and overturned in the left lane. The vehicle rolled over into the median, over the center guardrail and stopped in the median on the westbound side, Flynn said.

Passengers Jessey Philbin, 17, of Derry, New Hampshire, and 2-year-old Landon Proulx of Manchester, New Hampshire, were thrown from the vehicle, Flynn said.

Justin Proulx, Philbin, Kaiden Proulx, 4, and Krystal Kula, 24, both of Manchester, New Hampshire, were medevacked by three helicopters, NorthSTAR and Atlantic Air One and Three.

Justin Proulx, Kaiden Proulx and Philbin are in critical condition as of Tuesday morning. Kula and Landon Proulx are in stable condition, Flynn said. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
On Monday, Westbound traffic was backed up for 7 miles and eastbound traffic was backed up about 4 miles, as all lanes were closed for three medevac helicopters that landed on the expressway. The accident also caused significant delays on routes 31 and 173.

Flynn said the accident remains under investigation.
