Monroe, WI : One dead, three injured following Green County crash on Friday, February 10, 2017

One person is dead following a two-car crash in Clarno Township, just south of Monroe.

According to the Green County Sheriff's Department, it happened Friday just before 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Melvin and Clarno Roads.

First responders arrived within minutes to render aid and extinguish a fire on one of the vehicles.

Three people were airlifted to UW Hospital in Madison, and are currently in critical condition. A fourth person was pronounced dead at the scene. All of their identities are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Initial reports indicate a sedan traveling westbound on Melvin Road failed to stop at the intersection and collided with a northbound truck.

Speed and failure to stop are considered factors for the sedan in the crash.

The roads were closed for approximately six hours to allow sheriff's deputies and the Wisconsin State Patrol to reconstruct the accident.
