Harford County, MD : Bel Air man killed in a single vehicle accident on Route 155 near Havre de Grace on Monday evening, February 15, 2016

A Bel Air man was killed in a single vehicle accident on Route 155 in the Havre de Grace area early Monday evening, Harford County first responders and Maryland State Police said.

One person was found with "grave injuries" at Route 155 and Earlton Road at about 5:39 p.m., according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association.

Level Volunteer Fire Company and mutual aid stations also responded to the scene, according to the association.

Maryland State Police, which is investigating the crash, said in a news release Tuesday morning that first responders found the driver, later identified as Christopher Lewis, 39, of Bel Air, trapped in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Lewis was operating a silver Buick Century traveling west on Route 155 when he lost control of the vehicle on the snow covered roadway, State Police said.

The vehicle slid off the roadway on to the right shoulder and struck a utility support pole on its driver’s side, State Police said. Lewis was the only occupant.

“He was clearly going too fast for the conditions,” Lt. Timothy Mullin, commander of the State Police’s Bel Air barrack, said Tuesday.

At the time of the accident, the region was under a winter weather advisory, with sleet or freezing rain forecast through the night.
