Omaha, NE : One person killed and one person seriously injured in a car crash near 120th and Miami streets on Wednesday night, December 23, 2015

One person was killed and one person was seriously injured Wednesday night in a car crash that caused traffic lanes to be closed, dispatchers confirmed.

Police said a passenger, Marcus E. Haney, 20, of Bennington, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash was reported around 9:20 p.m. near 120th and Miami streets.

Police say a white 2006 Chevy Trailblazer was northbound on 120th Street when it left the roadway at a high rate of speed. The passenger side of the SUV then struck a tree.

The driver, Deangelo Peak, 19, was transported to Nebraska Medicine with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Peak is being treated for head injuries and cuts to his chest.

Police say while the roadway did have a few icy spots, the primary cause of the accident was speed.

Traffic lanes on 120th Street were shut down between 120th and Blondo streets, according to Sgt. Jason Menning of the Omaha Police Department's traffic unit.

The crash remains under investigation.
