Buckeye, AZ : Glendale woman, 4-year-old boy die in crash on I-10 near Watson Road on Monday morning, July 11, 2016
Two people were killed and seven others were injured in a rollover crash on westbound Interstate 10 near Watson Road, west of Goodyear, late Monday morning.
The driver, Maria Del Carmen Chavez, 31, and a 4-year-old boy, both of Glendale, were killed during the crash at milepost 117, according to authorities.
Seven others were rushed to local hospitals. A woman and 13-year-old passenger were transported to Abrazo West Hospital. Four children were transported by ambulance to Phoenix Children's Hospital. One child was flown by helicopter to PCH.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said Chavez lost control of the SUV and rolled into the median about 11 a.m.
Buckeye fire crews arrived and saw a vehicle that appeared to have rolled several times, according to Buckeye Fire Capt. Tommy Taylor.
DPS spokesman Raul Garcia said none of the nine occupants were properly restrained and many of them were ejected from the SUV during the rollover crash.
Several motorists stopped to render aid.
Garcia said driver fatigue is suspected by investigators.
Both directions of I-10 were closed for a time during the investigation.
