HAMILTON, IL : Quincy teen dies, second teen injured in Hancock County UTV crash on Sunday, 25th August 2019

A Quincy teen died, and a Carthage man faces a charge of aggravated driving under the influence in a Sunday night UTV crash in Hancock County.

Illinois State Police reported a 2016 CanAm UTV Side by Side driven by Jared Buchanan, 23, of Carthage was southbound 5:56 p.m. on County Road 1300 East, just south of 1500 North, when Buchanan drove off the west side of the road into a field. ISP said Buchanan attempted to turn the UTV sideways, and it rolled onto its side.

A passenger, Emily Flora-Hawkins, 18, of Quincy, was ejected from the UTV, which landed on top of her. Flora-Hawkins was taken by Hancock County EMS to UnityPoint Health-Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

A second passenger, Meghan Clarkson, 18, of Quincy, was taken by Air Evac to Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Buchanan was taken by Hancock County EMS to Memorial.

ISP said driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving caused the crash. Buchanan was charged with aggravated DUI.

ISP was assisted by the Hancock County Sheriff's Department, Hamilton Fire Department, Hancock County EMS, Air Evac, Hancock County Coroner and B and D Towing.
