Phoenix, AZ : Bicycle rider killed in collision with semi truck Saturday afternoon on June 7, 2014

A 56-year-old man riding his bike on Buckeye Rd was hit and killed by a semi-truck Saturday afternoon.

Police say he was on the sidewalk when he swerved off into the road to avoid a telephone pole. The man wrecked his bike and fell into a semi that was passing. He was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later.

The intersection near 24th Ave and Buckeye was closed for several hours for the police investigation.
