MADISON, WI : Man killed in crash on Highway 30 identified on Monday, February 13th 2017
A man killed in a crash Sunday night on Highway 30 in Madison is identified as a Cottage Grove man.
Madison police said a 37-year-old man died and two other people were sent to the hospital after a four-vehicle crash on Highway 30 and Fair Oaks Avenue in Madison. The crash was reported at 4:51 p.m.
The man killed in the crash was identified Tuesday by the Dane County Medical Examiner as Kirk M. U'Ren. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy showed U'Ren died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the crash, according to a release from the medical examiner.
A preliminary investigation report said a vehicle traveling east on Highway 30 crossed the median and struck a vehicle headed west.
Madison police said a 25-year-old driver lost control of his car as he was headed east on Highway 30. He drove into a ditch and went airborne as he entered the west lanes. The car landed on an SUV, killing U'Ren.
The SUV passenger, a 34-year-old Cottage Grove woman, was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries Monday, according to a news release.
The impact caused the SUV to collide with two other vehicles, Madison police said. One contained a 35-year-old Madison woman. She suffered a minor injury. The other contained a couple from Pewaukee, a 50-year-old man and 48-year-old woman. They were not injured.
Police said the driver of the car that crossed the median, a town of Dunn man, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said Monday he had not been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
Speed appeared to be a factor in the fatal wreck, officials said.
Kirk U'ren and Jennifer U’ren, who is in critical condition, are parents to twin 1-year-old boys. The family’s daycare, Kids’ Safari, has waived tuition for the boys and is collecting money, diapers and food for the family. Donations can be made online.
