Ashland, OR : Montague man killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Ashland on Tuesday, April 12, 2016

A Montague, Calif. man was reported killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 Tuesday, according to an Oregon State Police report.

OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 5 at milepost 19 near Ashland. Preliminary investigation revealed that the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle, Robert D. Butler, 85, of Montague, drove off the roadway, down an embankment and his vehicle rolled over.

Butler was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

OSP is investigating contributing factors, but can confirm Butler was not using his safety belt. A number of citizens stopped at the scene prior to emergency personnel arriving. Among them were a commercial truck driver and a male driving a motorhome who left prior to speaking to troopers.
