Ocala, FL : One woman was killed and another seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash at North U.S. 441 On Saturday, May 21st, 2016
One woman was killed and another seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash on north U.S. 441 early Saturday.
Tashawn Michelle White, 37, of DeLand, was killed shortly after midnight, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers.
The injured woman is Allison Margaret Milne, 44, of Belleview, according to the FHP.
Firefighters from Marion County Fire Rescue cut the seat belt from the injured woman, whose car — a 1998 Chevy Malibu — had come to rest on its roof in the northbound lanes in the 4200 block of north U.S. 441. Milne was then rushed to Ocala
Regional Medical Center, where she was later listed in serious condition.
Thirty to 40 yards away, also in the northbound lanes, was White's van. She was wearing her seat belt, officials said.
According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, the car was going south in the left-hand lane when, for unknown reasons, it veered into the grassy median, went airborne and then overturned.
While it was rolling over, the car collided with the driver’s side of the van, which was in the inside northbound lane.
Fire rescue officials said they received the call at 12:07 a.m. and arrived on scene a minute later, as one of the rescue vehicles was nearby, on its way back from a local hospital.
The local traffic death is the second since Wednesday, when 17-year-old Zachery Holt, a Belleview High School sophomore, was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver on south U.S. 301. Vanisha Weir, 27, was arrested in that case. Records show
she was released from the Marion County Jail at 2:30 a.m. Friday after posting $30,000 bond.
