Gwinnett deputy dies in motorcycle accident

Gwinnett County sheriff's Deputy Bill Edge was on his way home when a truck and his motorcycle collided at a Barrow County intersection, authorities said Tuesday.
An ice cream truck ran a stop sign at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Bowman Mill Road late Monday afternoon and collided with a passing truck, according to a Georgia State Patrol report.
The truck struck Edge's motorcycle, knocking him off, authorities said. Edge, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.Edge, 55, had worked with the sheriff's office four years, spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said.He held a civilian position in the technical services unit and was a reserve sheriff's deputy, she saidHe was a Gwinnett County police officer in the late 1970s and had served in the U.S. Marine Corps.A Harley-Davidson rider, Edge was a member of the Gwinnett chapter of the Blue Knights, a motorcycle club mostly comprised of law enforcement officers.
