New Hampshire State Police are looking for the driver who struck a man in Hampton Falls and fled late Wednesday night.Police said a passing driver told officers before 11:30 p.m. that an unconscious man was lying on the side of Lafayette Road.
"So (Wednesday) night around 11:23 p.m., passing motorists located an unconscious person in the road on Route 1 in Hampton Falls," New Hampshire State Police Lt. John Hennessy said.
The victim, a 31-year-old man from Haverhill, Massachusetts, was suffering from a broken leg and a head injury.
Officers found debris consistent with a car crash at the scene.
"The degree of injuries -- the person did suffer some compound fractures, some possible internal injuries. He was transported to the Portsmouth Hospital. The troopers located some debris in the roadway indicitive of a motor vehicle crash," Hennessy said.
Although no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, officials said they already have an idea of who they are looking for.
"We believe we have located a suspect and also a possible vehicle involved in the crash," Hennessy said.
"The collision analysis reconstruction unit will put together an investigation, they'll gather all the facts that they can with the help of the public obviously to put this thing together and close it out," he said.
