NASHVILLE, TN : Head-on crash shuts down I-24 West in Trigg County on Friday, 28th July 2023

A crash shut down all westbound lanes of I-24 in Trigg County, Kentucky early Friday morning, according to Trigg County Emergency Management.

A pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it crashed head-on into a semi near mile marker 60, according to authorities. The driver of the semi attempted to avoid the collision and hit the median barrier cable.

The driver of the truck and the driver of the semi were both taken to hospitals, as was a passenger in the sleeper of the semi.

Emergency management personnel originally announced the interstate would likely be closed until 7 a.m., but they managed to open one westbound lane for traffic around 4:30 a.m.

Commuters are still urged to find alternate routes as traffic will remain slow for most of the morning.
