Tampa, FL : Man in wheelchair dies in collision while crossing Hillsborough Avenue Tuesday night on June, 3 2014

A man in a wheelchair died after he was hit by a SUV while crossing Hillsborough Avenue Tuesday night.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators say David Lee Pruitt, 53, of Tampa was not using a crosswalk when he tried to cross Hillsborough Avenue near Staley Drive around 8:58 p.m.

Pruitt was hit by a 2013 Toyota RAV 4 driven by Marie Hughes, 42, of Pinellas Park.

Pruitt was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he died from injuries suffered in the crash.

No citations were given in connection with the crash.
