CLAY CENTER, KS : 2 killed, 3 hurt in head-on crash on Kansas highway on Saturday, 12th October 2024

Two people were killed and three others suffered serious injuries when two vehicles collided head-on in northern Kansas.

The crash happened at around 4 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 24 about seven miles west of Clay Center. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports an eastbound Ford Ranger crossed the center line and struck a westbound minivan.

Two passengers in the minivan died. The patrol identified them as 79-year-old Alma Wright and 72-year-old Robert McCollum, both of Gardner, Kansas. KHP reports they were not wearing seat belts.

The 18-year-old man driving the pickup and two passengers in the minivan, a 55-year-old woman and an 80-year-old man, were hospitalized with suspected serious injuries. The 47-year-old man driving the van was not hurt. The two drivers were wearing seat belts. It's unclear if the two surviving van passengers were.
