Orlando ,FL : 8-month-old in stroller injured after hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Coletta drive on Thursday ,May 14th 2015
The victim of a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Coletta and East Colonial drives said she hopes someone can provide information that will lead authorities to the driver responsible.
Charlene Sandio said she was pushing a stroller with her 8-month-old grandson, Jayden, when a minivan hit them Thursday around 2 p.m.
“I said ‘Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, what you doing? Oh my God.’ I’m just lucky to be alive,” Sandio said.
“She said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I have to get my kids. I’m late,’” Sandio said. “I said, ‘What about my grandbaby right here?’”
Sandio described the driver as a heavyset woman with long brown hair. She said the woman fled after the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Sandio was crossing the street when the driver made a right turn and hit them.
“She was looking left, she was not looking right,” Sandio said.
Sandio said her grandchild suffered a concussion and suffered a gash to his head. Sandio said her hip still bothers her, but the baby’s mother, Akeima Sandio, said the crash could have been much worse.
“It’s good he’s alive, that he survived, because it could have been worse,” Akeima Sandio said. “He could have got run over and got killed.”
