Sarasota County ,FL : Punta Gorda man dies in fiery I-75 crash on Thursday night ,June 18th 2015

A Punta Gorda man died Thursday night in a fiery single-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 near the Fruitville Road exit.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol:

James A. Sweet, 72, of Punta Gorda was driving a 2014 Ford Edge southbound at mile marker 210 when he began to drift westbound across the center and right lanes. Sweet's car entered the southbound right shoulder and veered off the road, where it struck a tree.

After the accident, the vehicle began to leak fuel and burst into flames.

Sweet was pronounced dead at the scene.
