Elkridge, MD : woman killed after being struck by two cars on Route 1 in Elkridge early Wednesday morning, February 4, 2015
A Pedestrian walking along U.S. 1 in Elkridge on Wednesday morning was killed after being struck by two vehicles, including one that left the scene, according to Howard County Police.
Authorities said that at 4:40 a.m., a 2002 Toyota SUV was traveling north U.S. 1 prior to Bonnie View Lane when it struck a woman walking along the roadway.
Authorities said the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Anthony Keith Corbin, 53, of Elkridge, stopped on the side of the road. Authorities said a second vehicle then struck the woman while she was lying in the roadway.
Police said the victim's identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
Authorities said that Corbin was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation. He described the second vehicle as a dark-colored SUV.
Northbound traffic on U.S. 1, also known as Washington Boulevard, was closed for nearly five hours due to the incident, authorities said. The incident is under investigation, authorities said.
In other traffic incidents, all southbound traffic on Interstate 97 in Millersville is closed at MD 32 due to a single-vehicle crash at 11:04 a.m., DOT said.
All northbound lanes are closed on MD 136 in Churchville at Cool Branch Road due to emergency roadwork at 9:50 a.m., DOT said.
Emergency roadwork on I-895 North at the Ritchie Spur has closed the northbound left traffic lane and northbound left shoulder at 9:36 a.m., DOT said.
Emergency roadwork on MD 155 South in the Havre de Grace area at Exit 89 has closed the southbound right shoulder at 9:07 a.m., DOT said.
The State Highway Administration said in a release that two right lanes of I-95 South prior to the exit for MD 32 in the Columbia area will close at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday for bridge repairs. While the left lanes will remain open, the right lane closures will remain in effect into the evening commute, according to SHA.
The Maryland Transit Administration said at 11:28 a.m. that trains, buses and mobility vehicles were running on schedule.
