Granby, MA : Ludlow man killed in ATV accident in Granby on Wednesday night, May 11, 2016

A 61-year-old Ludlow man was killed in what Granby police said was an all-terrain vehicle accident Wednesday night at the Chicopee Sportsmen's Club off 381 Batchelor St.

The victim was identified as Gary Costa by Granby police early Thursday afternoon.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 7:11 p.m. Wednesday.

"The caller reported an ATV accident at the base of one of the trails near the pond. The caller also reported there was one rider injured," Granby police said in a statement released on Thursday.

"When personnel arrived, they found the victim trapped underneath the ATV and two bystanders performing CPR," the statement said.

"Emergency personnel took over life-saving measures and the operator was transported to Baystate Medical Center (in Springfield), where he later succumbed to his injuries. The operator was identified as 61-year-old Gary Costa of Ludlow," police said.

Granby Police Chief Alan Wishat said the ATV accident remains under investigation by the Granby Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and Massachusetts Environmental Police.
