ELYRIA, OH : Woman killed in car crash on Wednesday, 26th December 2018

A Lorain County woman was killed early this morning in a single-vehicle accident.The Elyria post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash that occurred in Lorain County’s Carlisle Township.

At 4:15 a.m. Angel L. McCartney, 25, of Elyria, was driving a 1997 Plymouth Breeze north on West River Road, north of Russia Road, when the vehicle went off the left side of the road and into the ditch, striking a utility pole and a culvert, troopers said.

McCartney, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Carlisle firefighters extracted her from the vehicle using mechanical means. Her body then was transported by Great Lakes to the Lorain County morgue.

Alcohol and/or drug abuse is suspected as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.

Agencies assisting troopers at the scene included the Lorain County Sheriff's Office, Carlisle Fire Department, the Lorain County Coroner’s Office, the Lorain County Engineer’s Highway Department and Don’s Towing.
