A 27-year-old man suffered minor injuries on Sunday night in Merced County when he crashed into a ditch off Highway 99, California Highway Patrol reported.

At around 7:20, David Martinez, who was driving under the influence, was traveling north on Highway 99 at a high speed near Mission Boulevard when he went off the roadway, Officer Mark Ramirez said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Ramirez said.

Martinez, driving a Hyundai Accent, was able to get himself out of the car and complained of back pain, he said.
