Asheville, NC : Pacolet man injured in crash that shut down lanes on I-26 West near Asheville on Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Asheville Police said a Pacolet man suffered life threatening injuries in a crash that briefly shut down travel on I-26 West near Asheville and blocked lanes for several hours Wednesday.

Westbound lanes were shut down at mile marker 31 around 8:30 a.m. after the crash, DOT officials said.

Police said the nab was driving a heavy construction truck that slid, rolled down the guard rail, and then rolled partially into the media.

Police said the man was rushed to Mission hospital. The man's condition is not known.

Officials advised drivers heading west on I-26 to avoid delays by taking Exit 33 onto NC-191. Turn left onto NC-191 North and continue on NC-191 until the road reconnects with I-26 or I-40.

DOT officials said the left lane had reopened by 12:30 p.m. but the right lane remained closed.
