Provo,UT : Family releases identity of 6-year-old girl killed in Provo car crash on June, Saturday 10th 2017

The family of a 6-year-old girl who was killed Saturday in a Provo car crash has released her identity.

According to a statement from the family, the girl’s name is Iris Arnold.

In the statement the family said, “The Arnold family appreciates the support and concern for them and are asking for all to show the same courtesy and love for the young man that caused the accident. While their hearts are broken, they also ache for the young man involved. They miss their sweet Iris and are praying for her grandfather and cousin. She was an intelligent, vibrant and loving little girl.”

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized by a family friend to help the Arnold family pay for unexpected medical and funeral costs.

According to a Provo Police Department post on Facebook, officers were called at 3 p.m. in response to an incident involving a westbound driver who reportedly drifted off the road and struck a parked Acura car near the 2900 block of West Center Street.

Iris, her grandfather and her 5-year-old cousin were exiting the vehicle when they were all struck. All three sustained injuries and were transported to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.

Iris’s cousin was taken via air ambulance to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. Both her cousin and grandfather remain in critical condition.

The driver of the moving vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with police tests at the department. Jennings said investigators have ruled out driving under the influence and it may reportedly be drowsy driving.

The driver is not in custody. The department’s lead investigator was expected to meet with the Utah County Attorney’s Office on Monday regarding possible charges.
