Mother, child killed in crash on I-285 ramp, near Ga. 400 in Georgia
A multi-vehicle crash on the I-285 ramp to Georgia 400, claimed the lives of a 17-year-old mother and her 2-year-old daughter, Fulton County authorities say.Following the crash, Sandy Springs police confirmed that two people had died. By late morning, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said that the two are a teen and child, who are mother and daughter: Gabriella Faiz, 17, and Jada Faiz, 2.In addition to Ms. Faiz and her child, one other person suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, according to Sandy Springs Police Capt. Steve Rose.The fiery crash, which involved a tractor-trailer and two vehicles, took place about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, witnesses said. All I-285 westbound lanes were blocked between Peachtree-Dunwoody Road and Ga. 400 Thursday night.Gabriella's mother, Al-Quiyamah Faiz, said that a mechanic had just fixed her daughter's car and she was trailing her daughter home when she got a call."I talked to her and she said, ‘Mom it just stopped again.' So, I said, ‘Stay there and I'll come back around,' and that's when I saw the flames," said the mother.Al-Quiyamah Faiz said she believes another car rear-ended her daughter's Honda on the busy interstate.
