Tampa, FL : Tampa driver killed after car ends up in lake after rear-end collision on Wednesday, December, 27th 2017
man was killed and his passenger was injured Wednesday night when he rear-ended another vehicle on W Hillsborough Avenue, propelling his car into a lake, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash took place at about 11:30 p.m. on Hillsborough Avenue west of Montague Street, near Alonso High School.
The identity of the driver who died was not released by troopers, who were still trying to locate his family.
The driver was headed east in a 2017 Nissan Maxima when he rear-ended a 2017 Toyota Camry and veered off the roadway, the FHP said.
The Nissan came to rest partially in a lake along the outside shoulder of the road. The passenger, Jeannie Kay Miller, 25, of Palm Harbor, suffered minor injuries.
The occupants of the Toyota — driver Tien Tram, 26, of Clearwater, and passenger Quynh Tran, 22, of Oldsmar — were not injured.
The driver of the Maxima was the only one involved in the crash not wearing a seat belt, the FHP said.
