A man was killed and another person injured in a single vehicle wreck Wednesday night, the Greenville Police Department said.

Carey Wayne Cobb, 64, of Wellford, died at the scene of the crash on South Church Street at University Ridge, the Coroner's Office said.

Cobb was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe about 8:15 p.m when the vehicle left the roadway, drove up a hill and struck the Cleveland Street bridge, the Coroner's Office said.

A female passenger was transported to the hospital, according to police. Her condition was unknown.

A traffic reconstruction team was at the scene late Wednesday. Only one lane of traffic was open on South Church Street, police said. All other traffic was rerouted by officers on scene.
