Tukwila, WA : Two people critically injured in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in Tukwila on Thursday afternoon, March 3, 2016

A loose wheel looks to be to blame for a multiple-car crash on I-5 north that sent two people to the hospital and injured three others.

Trooper Chris Webb says the tire came off a car near the SR-599 interchange and came to rest in the middle of the freeway. A second vehicle struck the tire and became disabled. Another car came along and struck the disabled vehicle, Webb said.

In all, four vehicles were involved.

Tukwila Fire officials say three people were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle -- two in critical condition and one other in serious condition. Two others suffered minor injuries.

The crash blocked four lanes of traffic for nearly three hours, creating a backup that extended several miles to at least the I-405 interchange. The accident cleared just before 4 p.m.
