COLVILLE, WA : 81-year-old woman killed in crash on State Route 395 near milepost 223 on Wednesday, 10th July 2019

An 81-year-old woman died in a crash just south of Colville on Wednesday.

Washington State Patrol responded to the crash on State Route 395 near milepost 223.

According to WSP, a car was driving northbound when it crossed over the center line and hit the car of 81-year-old Shirley J. Ashbaugh. In a statement, WSP said Ashbaugh tried to avoid the car by driving into the southbound shoulder, but was struck and died at the scene.

Three people in the other car suffered non-life threatening injuries and were hospitalized. Cameron Luoma, 24, and a 2-year-old child were taken to Mount Carmel hospital. Rebecca Garwood, 21, was air lifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center. Troopers don't believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

The roadway reopened late Wednesday evening.
